The former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahene, appears to be reveling in the party’s historic defeat in the 2024 elections.
Speaking on public television, the outspoken politician described some of the appointees within the NPP government after the 2017 elections as greedy and exceedingly selfish.
He remarked, “The NPP has a herculean task to rebrand its deteriorated image before the Ghanaian voters. I’m saying it’s not going to be easy. The apathy we suffered in the 2024 elections has deeply sunk into the minds of Ghanaians.”
He further lamented, “If I listen to what people say about the NPP and recall what I personally suffered at the hands of the same party I served as Deputy General Secretary, I feel we deserved the humiliating outcome of the election results.”
He emphasized, “If I were to share what I went through as the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP under the ruling government, it would shock you. If gold rusts, what will iron do? I, as the Deputy General Secretary, struggled in life—how much more the ordinary party members and other Ghanaians?”
Nana Obiri Boahene disclosed, “In 2017, I wrote a letter to the government requesting a business opportunity on behalf of Abronye Investment Company to supply food items to Buffer Stock. To date, they have never replied to the letter. Isn’t this unbelievable?”
He continued, “From 2017 to 2024, some politicians in the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government were extremely greedy, selfish, and backstabbing. They were full of themselves and captured every surviving opportunity in the government. I’m sure such characters could not even find a place in hell. I’m not mincing words—I’m just saying it as it is. That’s how I speak. You can insult me; I don’t care because insulting me didn’t start today. To borrow the words of Nana Butler, I have thick skin. If you let them do it to you without complaining, they’ll never stop,” he warned.
He concluded, “Here we are in opposition. We’ve all lost power. They may have the money, but look—oral has come, and we share. See!” He then burst into laughter.
