The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has categorically denied allegations suggesting he and the party’s National Organiser traveled to Europe to endorse Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Mr. Frimpong dismissed as “baseless, needless, and factually inaccurate” a viral video circulating on social media.
The video features a man identified as Shaibu Lasisi, who alleges that the NPP executives accompanied Dr. Bawumia to Belgium, Holland, and the United Kingdom to campaign on his behalf and lobby for the adoption of a top-down approach in the party’s internal elections.
“I want to state on record and without prevarication that myself and the National Organiser went to Belgium to attend the IDU conference — the center-right ideological body to which the NPP belongs,” Frimpong clarified. “We did not attend any branch or party meeting in Belgium. The NPP executives in Belgium can corroborate this.”
He further explained that following the conference, they traveled to the Netherlands on May 16 to visit the family of Mr. Adabanka, the founder of NPP Holland, to offer their condolences following his passing.
According to Mr. Frimpong, he met with the NPP Holland branch on Sunday, May 18, to provide updates on party activities, emphasizing that it was an open and apolitical engagement. “At no point did I discuss any personality. It was an open meeting. Once again, our Holland Executives can confirm this,” he stated.
The General Secretary urged party members and the general public to disregard the claims made in the video, describing it as a “contrived machination” by detractors seeking to undermine his credibility and that of the party leadership.
“I entreat all well-meaning Ghanaians, especially the rank and file of the Party, to treat the said video and its content with the utmost contempt it deserves as same has no basis in truth,” he said.
Concluding his statement, Mr. Frimpong called on media practitioners to uphold the ethical standards of journalism, emphasizing the need for credibility and honesty in their work.
