The Ghana Scholarship Authority has conducted a nationwide competitive examination for applicants under the Hungarian Stipendium scholarship programme, marking what officials describe as a renewed push for transparency and merit-based awards.
The examination, held in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Civil Service Training Centre, brought together 3,810 candidates from across the country. Participants competed for slots at the undergraduate, master’s and PhD levels under the Government of Hungary scholarship scheme.
In a Facebook statement, the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat said the initiative forms part of efforts to ensure fairness and equal access to government-sponsored scholarships. According to the Registrar, the move aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to promote meritocracy in the award of scholarships.
The Registrar noted that WAEC will serve as the independent marking agency to guarantee credibility and integrity in the assessment process. He added that the competitive examination is intended to ensure that only qualified applicants are selected based on competence and performance.
The Hungarian Stipendium programme offers Ghanaian students the opportunity to pursue higher education in Hungary under a bilateral arrangement between the two countries.
The Authority has extended best wishes to candidates as they await the release of their results.
