The Oyoko Royal Family of Abedwum, located in the Adansi North District, is calling on the Ghana Police Service to arrest the former chief, Professor Joe Amoako Tuffour, who allegedly took the Oyoko Royal stool after being destooled by the Paramount Chief of New Edubiase, Oguahyia Oduro Panin Birikorang I, for gross misconduct.
The destoolment occurred three days prior to the incident.
According to the family, on the night of August 16, between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., a group of “machomen,” accompanied by several police officers, forcibly entered the Abedwum palace.
They allegedly broke into the stool room, known as the Nkonyadaamu, and took the black stool along with gold ornaments that have been part of the royal heritage for the past 600 years.
Eyewitnesses and victims, some of whom suffered gunshot wounds during the incident, shared their experiences with journalists who visited the community.
The Oyoko Royal Family performed traditional rituals to seek the assistance of their ancestors, Nananom, in locating the missing stool.
However, Abusuapanin Kwaku Asare, a family elder, mentioned that they have not yet informed the Chief of New Edubiase about the incident to take necessary action.
The Queen Mother of Abedwum, Nana Konadu Akyaw Yiadom III, made an urgent appeal to members of the Oyoko Royal Family across various paramountcies to unite in their efforts to retrieve the stolen stool, emphasizing its significance as a symbol of authority for the Oyoko Royal Family within the Asante Kingdom.
