The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has nominated Francis Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, to serve on the General Legal Council (GLC).

The nomination, made in accordance with Section 1(2) of the Legal Profession Act, 1960, and Paragraph 2(1)(d) of the First Schedule to the Act, was formally communicated to the Honourable Lady Chief Justice in an official letter.

Alongside Xavier Sosu, two other distinguished legal professionals have been nominated to the council, Mrs. Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, a lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law and Dr. Abdul-Bassit Aziz Bamba, a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana.

The General Legal Council is responsible for regulating the legal profession in Ghana, overseeing legal education, and ensuring ethical standards within the industry. The nomination of Xavier Sosu, a renowned human rights lawyer and MP, underscores his contributions to legal advocacy and governance.

According to the Attorney-General, His Excellency the President has been duly informed of the nominations.

The announcement signals the government’s commitment to strengthening legal education and regulation in Ghana, with the nominees expected to bring their expertise and leadership to the council’s work.
