Ama Serwaa, daughter of the late Akua Donkor, founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), is urging President Akufo-Addo’s government to grant her mother a state burial.
Speaking emotionally to Kumasimail.com, she highlighted her mother’s significant contributions to community development, including the construction of roads, schools, and markets in Ejuratia and surrounding areas.
“My mother has sacrificed so much,” she stated, emphasizing that Akua Donkor provided land and resources for vital infrastructure.
“My mother has done a lot of things. Notably, the road in this town came into existence thanks to my mother. She donated 25 acres of land, including the gravel on it, to NACO to construct the road. With her own money, she built the lorry station, school blocks at Ejuratia, a large market at Hemang for the market women, complete with water, toilet facilities, and lighting”.
Ama Serwaa emphasized that her mother has truly sacrificed a lot and deserves a state burial, as she pleaded with the government to assist in burying her beloved mother, Madam Akua Donkor.
The call for a state burial reflects widespread mourning in Ejuratia, where residents remember her as a transformative figure in local politics.
In 2016, the late Madam Akua Donkor stated in an interview with Kofi Adoma that if she were to die, it would be a significant event.
She recounted that when President Mills passed away, the state constructed nine graves for burial, and she claimed ownership of one.
