Some aggrieved supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday locked up the district office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) at Ejisu to protest what they describe as the neglect of party loyalists in government appointments.
The group, mainly youth supporters of the party, reportedly stormed the NHIA premises and locked the facility, temporarily disrupting operations at the office.
The protesters claim that individuals who worked tirelessly for the party in the lead-up to the 2024 Ghanaian general election have been overlooked in the distribution of government positions.
According to the demonstrators, the alleged exclusion of grassroots supporters from appointments has generated frustration among party faithful within the constituency.
They insist their contributions to the party’s electoral success have not been adequately recognised, prompting the protest.
It remains unclear whether officials from the National Health Insurance Authority or local authorities have engaged the protesters to resolve the situation.
