A group of armed robbers targeted several market women traveling from Kumasi to the Ejura Market in the Ashanti Region On Monday, 21st October 2024 .
The robbers, reportedly of Fulani descent, ambushed the women at gunpoint, stealing personal belongings including money, mobile phones, and other valuables.
According to Maame Ama, one of the victims, the robbers violently assaulted passengers who did not have money, using their weapons to intimidate them for several minutes before the police arrived. The attack left many of the women traumatized and injured.
” I had only three on physical cash on me it was coins i think that even provoke them to beat me more. of the robbers kept hitting my back with the gun insist i should bring the money i have on me” Maame Ama explained.
The Ejura Police Command confirmed the incident but refrained from providing further details, citing ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending the perpetrators who have been terrorizing commuters in the area.
The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the criminals to justice and restore safety to the route.
