Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the revered Asantehene, marked 25 years on the Golden Stool in London, celebrating the Asante Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and its invaluable contributions to the Republic of Ghana.
Speaking at the inaugural Black Heritage Network Symposium in London on August 2, 2024, the monarch expressed pride in the kingdom’s decision to join Ghana, highlighting the significance of preserving their uniqueness while embracing diversity.
The Asantehene’s reign has been a testament to the kingdom’s commitment to economic growth, cultural preservation, and sustainable development.
He noted, “We have seen a remarkable resurgence of our rich cultural heritage within the enchanting diversity of a wider nation-state called Ghana. We have successfully met the challenge of aligning the traditional values we represent with the values of the new democratic state.”
Otumfuo emphasized the kingdom’s drive to permeate the entire fabric of the new nation, making significant contributions to Ghana’s economic growth while maintaining their independence and unique heritage.
He proudly stated, “We are forever mindful of our heritage – the heritage of a proud African kingdom determined to preserve its independence and expand the scope for the advancement of its people.”
The monarch highlighted his contributions over the past 25 years, including unwavering support for chosen governments, facilitating business operations, and engaging with international institutions like the World Bank. His Majesty’s commitment to sustainable development and economic growth has been instrumental in shaping Ghana’s socio-economic fabric.
The event, hosted by Citibank, brought together dignitaries, scholars, and business leaders to honor the Asantehene’s vision and the Asante Kingdom’s enduring legacy. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Citi Group Chief Client Officer David Livingstone, and other notable figures attended the symposium, which explored the theme ‘The Asante Kingdom: Historical Legacy and Its Impact on Modern Economic Development’.
As the Asantehene looks to the future, he emphasized that the real task has only just begun, urging continued efforts to advance the kingdom’s people and permeate the entire fabric of the new nation with their drive for excellence.
