The Manhyia Palace has announced that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will convene what is expected to be the final phase of mediation talks in the protracted Bawku chieftaincy conflict on November 30 and December 1, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, Kofi Badu, the Palace said the two-day session will mark a critical step toward achieving lasting peace in Bawku, a town that has faced decades of intermittent clashes over traditional leadership disputes.
According to the statement, His Majesty has commended all parties involved in the mediation for their positive and cooperative approach throughout the process.
The Asantehene also appealed to all stakeholders to refrain from any actions that could jeopardize the progress made so far.
“His Majesty praises both sides for their positive approach to the mediation so far and appeals to all concerned to avoid any actions likely to affect the progress towards a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” the statement said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been leading the national mediation process in his capacity as a respected traditional leader known for his conflict resolution efforts across Ghana.
The Bawku conflict, which centers on competing claims to the traditional skin, has long affected peace and development in the Upper East Region.
The upcoming session is expected to bring together key representatives of the feuding factions, government officials, and security agencies as efforts continue to restore harmony to the area.
The Manhyia Palace expressed optimism that the December mediation would conclude with a consensus that paves the way for enduring peace in Bawku.
