The Minister for Trade, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses and agribusinesses, highlighting initiatives designed to boost enterprise and attract investment.
Speaking at the maiden Ashanti Expo in Kumasi on the theme “Unlocking Business Opportunities in the Golden Heart of Ghana,” the Minister said the event provides a platform for local enterprises to reach international markets and draw investment, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses.
“The government of President Mahama declared from day one that Ghana is open for business and will go wherever enterprise is being built to demonstrate that commitment. Events like this Expo are a living expression of that resolve. On behalf of the business community, we reaffirm our dedication to creating the conditions in which commerce, agribusiness, and industry can thrive.
The Ashanti Expo, under the theme ‘Unlocking Business Opportunities in the Golden Heart of Ghana’ is a declaration that our regions are not waiting for development to come to them,” she said.
Ofosu Agyare also highlighted challenges faced by women in agribusiness, noting that limited access to financial support is both unjust and economically counterproductive, given their central role in smallholder production. She said platforms like the Expo help address these disparities and drive inclusive growth.
She further emphasised that the Ministry is strategically positioned to ensure Ghanaian businesses fully benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Area, particularly as Ghana hosts its Secretariat.
Meanwhile, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene disclosed that over 500 businesses from all 47 districts in the region showcased their products at the Expo. He urged participants to build strategic networks and leverage the opportunities provided by the event.
