The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced the commencement and steady progress of several major development projects across the Ashanti Region, underscoring government’s commitment to infrastructure, healthcare, education and urban renewal.
Dr. Amoakohene made the announcement at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi during the first Akwasidae celebration of the year, attended by members of the Council of State including Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Chairman Yaw Obimpeh, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and other distinguished dignitaries.

On the traditional occasion, the Regional Minister conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Excellency the President to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and briefed Asanteman on key development initiatives currently underway in the region.
According to Dr. Amoakohene, a number of critical projects commenced in January 2026 and are progressing steadily.

These include the dualisation of the Asokwa–Ahodwo and Ahodwo–Santasi roads, rehabilitation of the Bekwai Roundabout–Santasi stretch, and road works from Mankranso to Kumasi.
Other ongoing projects are the Sekyere Nsuta–Sekyere Kwamang road, the Agogo–Maame Krobo road, and the installation of solar street lighting along key corridors.
He also disclosed that land graciously allocated by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has paved the way for the construction of a National Theatre in Kumasi, while work has begun on a Cath Lab facility under the Mahama Care Fund.

Additional initiatives include a Modern Urban Park project being undertaken by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, as well as various education and health infrastructure projects funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
Looking ahead, Dr. Amoakohene outlined key priorities for February, including the acceleration of works on the Suame Interchange, progress on the Outer Kumasi “Big Push” Ring Roads, the continuation of all projects initiated or resumed in January, and the commencement of major town road projects across the region.
He emphasized that the projects reflect strong collaboration between central government, traditional authorities and local government structures to improve transportation, healthcare delivery, education, public safety and economic opportunities for residents.
Dr. Amoakohene reaffirmed the region’s commitment to unity and results-driven governance, stating that the government remains focused on delivering tangible development outcomes for every community in the Ashanti Region.
He assured the Asantehene and the people of the region of continued engagement and partnership as efforts intensify to advance sustainable development and improve the quality of life across Ashanti.
