As Ghana prepares for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, the Ashanti Regional Peace Council (ARPC) is calling on all stakeholders to work together to ensure a peaceful and democratic process.
With just 15 days left before the polls, the Council commended all stakeholders who have contributed to sustaining peace in the region, particularly during this election year.
Recognizing historical trends and early warning signs, the ARPC urges electoral management bodies to prioritize the protection of Ghana’s peace and democratic integrity.
The statement noted “the nation is governed by the Rule of law; likewise, the electoral process. The Electoral management bodies are obliged to be committed to upholding the integrity of the elections”.
Voters are encouraged to participate without fear, ensuring that the elections remain peaceful, inclusive, fair, and transparent.
The Council emphasizes adherence to the rule of law and calls for all citizens to support peace-building initiatives.
“In order to achieve and maintain peace in the region, everyone has the responsibility to abide by the rule of law. We encouraged to be patient, empathic, love, and trust the very institutions of peace- building and support the National Peace Architecture at all times”.
The Council also highlights the media’s vital role in fostering a peaceful electoral atmosphere through responsible reporting.
“We would like to remind them of the critical roles they have played and continue to play in upholding Ghana’s democratic dispensation, which is admired by all on the international scene”
“This time let’s all help to make this election another successful and peaceful one by our actions to preaching and re-echoring peace messages in our reportage till the whole atmosphere is diffused and resonates with nothing but the flavour of peace”, statement signed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Nuh Ben Abubekr emphasized.
Again, the ARPC appeals for collective action to ensure a successful election, urging all Ghanaians to cherish and defend the nation’s hard-won peace.
