The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC) has rolled out strict security measures in response to the recent killing of Alhaji Abdul‑Malik Azenbge, Chief of Kusaase, at Asewase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

In a press statement issued on Friday, July 25, and signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Council expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family while assuring residents of the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace.

The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) held an emergency meeting on Wednesday, July 24, to assess the security situation following the Chief’s fatal shooting on Tuesday, July 22.

After the meeting, several immediate measures were announced:

  1. Motorbike restrictions: No motorbikes will be allowed on the roads after 7:00 p.m. until further notice.
  2. Ban on unlicensed bikes: Unlicensed motorbikes or those without functioning lights are prohibited.
  3. Suspension of activities: The ongoing inter-tribal football competition has been suspended indefinitely.
  4. Clothing restrictions: Motorbike riders are barred from wearing smocks, which authorities say can be used to conceal weapons.

The statement further indicated that security presence in hotspot areas would be intensified, with joint police and military patrols deployed to safeguard lives and property.

Dr. Amoakohene called on the public to cooperate fully with security agencies by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

“The REGSEC assures the general public of the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and fostering a peaceful society,” the statement read. “All necessary measures are being implemented to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.”

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and vigilant as investigations continue.
