The Ashanti Region continues to record the deadliest road crashes in the country, accounting for the highest number of deaths and injuries from January 2020 to July 2025, according to data from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA).
The region contributed 25.7% of all fatalities and 34.6% of injuries nationwide within the five-and-a-half-year period, making it the most dangerous region for road users.
Between January 2020 and December 2024, Ashanti Region reported 17,680 road crash cases, resulting in 2,831 deaths and 21,090 injuries. In just the first seven months of 2025, an additional 2,560 cases were recorded, claiming 441 lives and injuring 3,319 people.
In total, the five-year tally shows 20,240 reported crashes, leaving 3,131 people dead and 24,409 others injured on Ashanti roads.
Road safety experts say the region’s heavy traffic volumes, poor road discipline, and increasing motorcycle use are among the factors contributing to the alarming trend.
Authorities are urging stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, public education, and investment in safer road infrastructure to reduce the region’s rising casualty figures.
