Ashanti Regional office of Ghana Water Limited has confirmed that the Barekese Water Treatment Plant (WTP) will be temporarily shut down on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This shutdown is to facilitate planned maintenance work by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on power lines serving the Barekese headworks.
In a statement released by the Public Relations and Communications office of Ghana Water Limited, the company emphasized that the suspension of operations is necessary to allow ECG to carry out essential electrical maintenance aimed at improving service delivery in the region.
The statement reads, “Please be informed that Barekese Water Treatment Plant will be shut down on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, from 9 AM to 5 PM to allow the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to conduct maintenance on the power lines. Operations at Barekese WTP will resume as soon as power is restored.
“We appreciate your cooperation,” the statement added.
Customers served by the Barekese facility are advised to prepare for potential disruptions in water supply during the maintenance window.
Ghana Water Limited reassures the public that services will be restored promptly following completion of the electrical works.
The maintenance work forms part of ECG’s ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and enhance reliability of power supply across key installations in the Ashanti region.
