Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate, has hailed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposed solutions for the mining sector as a “game changer” and called on stakeholders to embrace them for the betterment of the industry and the country.
Addressing chiefs and residents of key mining communities in Numereso and Tweapease in the Odotobiri Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Prempeh underscored that the NPP’s primary goal is to manage Ghana’s mineral resources in a way that benefits the people and drives economic growth, without compromising environmental sustainability.
Speaking as part of his constituency campaign tour, Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, assured the people that a future Bawumia presidency would prioritize the formalization and regulation of environmentally sustainable small-scale mining through community mining schemes.
These schemes, he explained, would ensure responsible mining practices while creating wealth and jobs for Ghanaians.
“The NPP is committed to supporting Ghanaian-owned small-scale mining,” Napo said. “Dr. Bawumia’s bold solutions will bring about a golden age for responsible mining, benefiting our communities while preserving the environment.”
NPP’s Record of Development
Dr. Prempeh emphasized the NPP’s track record of supporting cocoa farmers and other local industries, stating that a vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would continue this legacy of improving livelihoods. He urged constituents to vote overwhelmingly for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Odotobiri, Anthony Mmieh, to further solidify the party’s development agenda for the region.
Napo also addressed some of the pressing challenges facing the community, including poor road infrastructure and network connectivity. He assured the residents that the government is aware of these issues and working towards resolving them.
“In a future NPP government, we will ensure that miners engaging in responsible practices are licensed and supported through the creation of District Mining Committees, which will include local chiefs,” Dr. Prempeh promised. He added that these measures would formalize the mining sector and enhance its contribution to national development.
Ongoing Development Projects
Hon. Michael Donkor, the District Chief Executive for Amansie Central, highlighted ongoing development projects in the constituency, including the construction of a new police station and efforts to address network connectivity challenges. He assured the residents that these projects are progressing and will be completed soon.
Calls for Support
The NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Odotobiri, Anthony Mmieh, also addressed the gathering, urging constituents to rally behind him and Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections to ensure continued development for the region. He was supported by party stalwarts who echoed the call for massive voter turnout in favor of the NPP.
Dr. Prempeh concluded by reiterating the importance of responsible and sustainable mining, stating that under a Bawumia-led government, the sector would be revolutionized for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
