Ghana’s Black Stars delivered a dominant performance, securing a commanding 5-0 win over Chad in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers matchday five clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The decisive victory moved Ghana to top Group I with 12 points.
Ghana took control early, striking just two minutes into the match as Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo capitalized on a rebound to open the scoring.
In the 32nd minute, Inaki Williams extended Ghana’s lead to 2-0 with a well-placed header from Kingsley Schindler’s cross. Just before halftime, Jordan Ayew made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Antoine Semenyo was brought down in the box.
Ghana maintained their attacking momentum in the second half, with Monaco’s Mohammed Salisu rising to head home a precise corner from Ernest Nuamah. Nuamah then sealed the victory in the 69th minute, finishing off a well-timed pass from Jordan Ayew.
Coach Otto Addo made a strong start, fielding a formidable lineup featuring Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Mohammed Salisu, all of whom delivered impressive performances.
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare made his international debut, but he had a quiet outing as Chad offered little threat to test him.
However, Cercle Brugge’s Lawrence Agyekum marked his international debut, coming on as a second-half substitute for Thomas Partey.
With this victory, Ghana shifts its focus to a crucial clash against Madagascar on Monday in Morocco.
A win would secure their lead in Group I and bring them closer to a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, Chad, still searching for their first win, will take on Comoros next.
