The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, on Monday, May 26, 2025, reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra following an invitation from the Director-General of the Department.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs Unit at CID, Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Mr. Antwi-Boasiako was accompanied by a team of lawyers led by former Attorney General Mr. Godfred Dame.
Chairman Wontumi was cautioned over three alleged offenses including, Undertaking mining operations without a license, pollution of water bodies and entering a forest reserve without authorization.
The CID noted that Antwi-Boasiako fully cooperated with investigators and gave a formal statement.
He was subsequently granted bail and is scheduled to report back to the police at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
