Construction work on the long-delayed Krofrom Market in Kumasi has officially resumed, with funding now secured through the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) 24-hour economy market allocation and support from the government.
The announcement was made by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, in a post on Facebook, where he indicated that renewed efforts are underway to complete the project after years of stalled progress.
The Krofrom Market project, which was initiated to improve trading conditions and decongest parts of Kumasi’s central business district, has faced multiple setbacks since its commencement.
Work on the facility slowed and eventually halted due to funding challenges and contractual issues, leaving traders without a modern and organized marketplace.
Over the years, the delays have drawn concern from residents and traders, many of whom have had to operate in temporary and often inadequate structures. The incomplete state of the market also raised safety concerns and hindered efforts to boost local commerce in the area.
With the latest intervention, authorities say the project will now benefit from allocations under the KMA’s 24-hour economy initiative, alongside direct support from the Government of Ghana. The funding is expected to accelerate construction and ensure the completion of critical infrastructure at the market.
The minister expressed optimism that the renewed work will bring relief to traders and contribute to economic activity in the region once completed.
The Krofoum Market is part of broader efforts by city authorities to modernize market infrastructure in Kumasi, a key commercial hub in Ghana, and to support extended trading hours under the government’s 24-hour economy policy.
