Former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, today begins a three-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region as part of his bid to once again lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
This marks Dr. Bawumia’s second attempt to secure the presidency after leading the NPP in the 2024 elections. His tour is expected to take him across all 47 constituencies of the Ashanti Region, where he will engage with delegates to make a case for his candidacy ahead of the party’s next presidential primaries.
As part of the campaign structure, the constituencies have been grouped into eight zones, with delegates converging at designated meeting points.
On Day One (Wednesday, September 10, 2025), Dr. Bawumia’s campaign will cover three major zones:
- Adansi Zone (9:00 a.m., Adansi Asokwa): Constituencies include Adansi Asokwa, Akrofuom, Fomena, Obuasi East, Obuasi West, and New Edubiase.
- Amasie Zone (12:00 noon, Bekwai): Constituencies include Bekwai, Bosome Freho, Bosomtwe, Manso Adubia, Manso Nkwanta, and Odotobri.
- Asante Akim Zone (3:00 p.m., Konongo): Constituencies include Asante Akim Central, Asante Akim North, and Asante Akim South.
The tour is expected to draw large numbers of party supporters and delegates, as the Ashanti Region remains the NPP’s stronghold and a key determinant of the party’s electoral fortunes.
Dr. Bawumia is scheduled to continue the tour over the next two days, meeting other zonal delegates across the remaining constituencies in the region.
