Medical Doctors in the Eastern Region are urging residents to remain cautious about cholera despite a recent containment of 19 cases in the Abuakwa South and New Juaben North Municipalities.
Currently, the region has no active cholera cases. However, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported 4,155 suspected cases and 35 deaths across five regions since the outbreak of Cholera in October 2024.
The Western Region remains the most affected, accounting for 17 deaths, many occurring within 24 hours of hospital admission.
Dr. Foster Amponsah-Manu, Clinical Director of the Eastern Regional Hospital, emphasized the Eastern region’s vulnerability despite the absence of active cases.
He urged residents to practice strict hygiene to prevent any resurgence of the disease.
Dr. Amponsah-Manu shared his caution during a charitable event led by Rev. Dickson Sarpong Tuffuor , the Eastern and Volta Regional Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), where over 800 patients, caregivers, and staff, at the Koforidua Regional Hospital were served meals as part of the Church’s corporate social responsibility.
The event is part of the church’s annual social responsibility initiative, started in 2018, to share Christ’s love with those enduring pain during the festive season.
He encouraged Christians to renew their commitment to Christ and extend love to others, which he believes is vital for nation-building.
