The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is preparing to start reconstruction of eight high‑tension transmission towers that collapsed near Ejisu in March 2024.
These towers are a key part of the power link between the Anwomaso Bulk Supply Point (BSP) and the Akyawkrom Substation.
A virtual kickoff meeting brought together ECG’s Ashanti Sub‑Transmission leadership, engineering and network project teams from the Head Office, the Premises & Estate unit, and BEST POWER—an Indian firm contracted to handle the project.
The meeting focused on finalizing pre‑contract requirements, securing mobilization funds, setting project timelines, ensuring strict safety standards, and planning to minimize power outages during construction.
Work on the towers is expected to begin next month or in early September once all contractual processes are completed. To limit disruptions, ECG plans to implement a weekly outage schedule while reconstruction is underway.
Ing. Peter Fletcher, General Manager of Ashanti Sub‑Transmission, assured stakeholders of his team’s readiness to deliver on the project and called for their full support. He also stressed the importance of additional safety measures, such as installing barriers around urban tower sites, to prevent future accidents involving heavy vehicles.
The project is part of ECG’s wider strategy to strengthen network reliability and enhance operational efficiency throughout the Ashanti Region.
