Ghana’s Ministry of Education has condemned what it describes as acts of violence captured in viral videos involving students from two schools in the Central Region.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said it “condemns, in the strongest terms,” the incidents seen in the footage, which has been circulating on social media.
Initial information, according to the statement, indicates that the students involved are from two separate schools in the Central Region. The ministry did not immediately name the schools.
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has been directed to investigate the matter. He is expected to meet the Central Regional Director of GES, the relevant district directors and the heads of the schools involved at 10:00 GMT on 23 February 2026 at the GES headquarters in Accra.
The ministry said it is awaiting a full report from the Director-General following the meeting.
Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, who signed the statement, said both he and the Minister for Education take the incidents “very seriously”.
He warned that those found responsible would face strict disciplinary action.
“The culprits and perpetrators can expect the most severe sanctions,” the statement said.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents and recommend appropriate measures.
