The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, has urged the government, through the Ministry of Roads and Highways, to immediately facilitate the return of road contractors to stalled projects in the constituency.
Raising the issue on the floor of Parliament on Monday, July 21, 2025, Mr. Boateng highlighted the deteriorating state of key roads, including the Ejisu–Onwe–Essienimpong–Kwaso Road, the Kokobra–Ekyem–Amoa–Achiase Road, and the Besease Jamasi Road.
He described these routes as “death traps,” endangering pregnant women, traders, farmers, and schoolchildren.
According to him, communities such as Ekyem, Akokoamon, and Asamang have never seen tarred roads since Independence. He lamented that large quantities of farm produce are left to rot in the bush because vehicles cannot access the farms.
His appeal follows a massive demonstration by the Concerned Drivers Union of Ejisu on July 7, 2025, during which residents and drivers staged a four-hour protest over the poor state of the roads, particularly the Onwe–Kwaso stretch.
Demonstrators complained that deep potholes along the route have contributed to miscarriages among pregnant women and caused frequent vehicle breakdowns.
Mr. Boateng further noted that most schoolchildren in the affected communities are unable to attend classes during the rainy season as vehicles often get stuck in the mud.
It will be recalled that the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia administration initiated works on the Ejisu–Onwe road and the Achiase road, but the projects were left uncompleted before the end of their term.
The MP’s call adds renewed pressure on the government to address the longstanding infrastructural challenges in Ejisu and ensure safer, more reliable road networks for residents.
