The newly appointed European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebach, has reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Ghana, with a focus on peace, security, and socio-economic development.
Ambassador Skinnebach paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, at his office in Accra, where discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting stability as a cornerstone for development.
The EU envoy emphasized the importance of maintaining Ghana’s long-standing peace and stability, describing them as essential foundations for sustainable collaboration and growth.
“As the new Ambassador to Ghana, I will take the European Union’s support for Ghana to a higher level. Ghana has immense potential, and the European Union will work to nurture that potential while maintaining peace and security in the subregion,” Ambassador Skinnebach stated.
He also expressed the EU’s readiness to support initiatives that create an enabling environment for investment and local economic progress, reaffirming the bloc’s interest in contributing to Ghana’s national development priorities.
In response, Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak welcomed the Ambassador and assured him of the government’s commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with the EU.
He outlined potential areas for collaboration, including the digitization of the Ghana Prisons Service to improve inmate management and support for conflict prevention initiatives through the National Peace Council.
The Minister also commended the immediate past EU Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Irchad Razaaly, for his dedicated service and expressed appreciation to the European Union for its continued partnership with Ghana.
He concluded by extending a warm welcome to Ambassador Skinnebach and wished him a successful and fulfilling tenure.
