Former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Chief Executive Samuel Pyne has asserted that his administration under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government laid all the groundwork for the ongoing dualization of the Santasi Roundabout to Ahodwo Roundabout road, insisting the project is not a new initiative of the current administration.
Pyne, speaking in an interview with Kojo Marfo on Daybreak on Fakye TV, emphasized that his team completed every preparatory step, from stakeholder engagements to securing funding, leaving only the release of funds for implementation.
“Santasi Roundabout to Ahodwo Road dualization, I did all the documentations when I was in office,” Pyne stated.
“Stakeholder engagement, project-affected persons documents informing affected traders to vacate the site, I did all of them. You can call Ben Agyenim Boateng and ask him,” he added.
The project, Pyne noted, was slated to begin in August 2024 but faced delays due to two key factors. First, concerns from his own NPP government about potential backlash in an election year, including fears of public outcry over displacements. Second, technical advice to prioritize the completion of the Santasi Roundabout to Bekwai Roundabout road to avoid traffic chaos for commuters from Obuasi and surrounding areas heading to the city center.
When host Kojo Marfo pressed, “Is it to say that it was your project?” Pyne replied sharply, “Yes.”
He added that technical teams under his watch led engagements with stakeholders like Dakodwamu car dealers, and he personally drafted letters and retained copies of all discussions.
“Funding was secured, but what was left was releasing the funds,” Pyne explained.
The assertion comes amid ongoing roadworks in Kumasi, a key infrastructure priority for alleviating chronic traffic congestion along the busy Santasi-Ahodwo corridor.
Neither the current KMA administration nor the Ministry of Roads and Highways has publicly responded to Pyne’s claims as of press time.
