Former Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi says he does not want former President Mahama and the NDC to succeed in the next administration.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, monitored by Kumasi Mail, the former lawmaker stated that while he does not wish ill for the country, he remains unconvinced that the NDC has the capacity to deliver on its promises. His comments reflect a broader political objective of seeing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) return to power in the 2028 general elections.
“I want him [Mahama] to fail. I want my party to win the 2028 elections,” Boakye Antwi said. “I don’t want him to fail, as in fail, but I know that the NDC cannot do much in terms of what they promised.”
Boakye Antwi also cited internal political dynamics as a critical challenge for any administration. Drawing from his experience in government, he suggested that President Mahama would face similar hurdles from within his own team.
“I have been in government, and sometimes, as a President, your appointees will make sure that you fail. The kind of things I saw when we were in government are the same Ghanaians in the NDC, so it will be transferred across there,” he explained.
He emphasized that his skepticism is primarily rooted in the NDC’s perceived inability to manage the economy effectively.
“I don’t want Mahama to succeed, as in succeeding, because I want my party [NPP] to win… In terms of the actual management of the economy, I don’t think the NDC has what it takes,” Boakye Antwi added.
His comments are likely to spark debate as the political climate heats up ahead of the 2028 elections.
