The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) has officially begun operations, providing support to patients with non-communicable diseases and investing in critical medical infrastructure, its officials have said.

According to a post by Felix Ofosu Kwakye on X, the fund is constructing modern cardiology centres at three of the country’s teaching hospitals Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The centres are designed to be fully equipped with modern catheterization laboratories, operating theatres, intensive care units, consulting rooms, pharmacies, and dedicated oxygen plants.

The minister in charge of government communication highlighted that the project is already underway, showcasing both the design of the facilities and progress made so far. The initiative aims to reduce the prohibitive cost of treatment for patients and enhance Ghana’s capacity to manage cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases effectively.
Officials say the centres are part of a broader strategy to improve access to high-quality healthcare and strengthen the country’s medical infrastructure for specialized treatment.
