The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has escalated security operations in Bawku and surrounding areas following renewed clashes and sporadic gunfire, deploying cordon-and-search tactics to restore order.
The move comes amid persistent unrest in the region, with troops targeting armed elements to prevent further violence.
In the early hours of Monday, April 21, 2025, military personnel stationed in Binduri responded to gunshots near the Binduri Central Market.
A joint team from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, backed by police, cordoned off the area and conducted a thorough search.
Arrest and Seizures.
The operation led to the arrest of a suspected gunman, who was handed over to police for interrogation.
Security forces recovered an arsenal of weapons, including:
Firearms: AK-47 rifle, G3 rifle, Ammunition: 370 rounds for M16/AK-47 rifles, 128 G3 rounds, Tactical gear: Four fragmentation jackets, a helmet, boots, and a machete.
The statement emphasized that later that day, unidentified assailants attempted to breach Binduri’s security perimeter but were repelled by military patrols.
Also, a brief exchange of gunfire ensued before the attackers retreated.
Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, confirmed the situation is under control, with troops remaining on high alert.
“We are collaborating with other agencies to safeguard Bawku’s peace,” he stated, urging public cooperation to restore normalcy.
