The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the full clearance of all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant for public basic schools, covering the period from 2023 to the present.

They emphasized, “The Government of Ghana has fully settled all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant.”

This payment underscores the Government of Ghana’s commitment to supporting the smooth operation and effective management of basic education nationwide.

“These arrears cover the period from 2023 to date, and their payment reflects
government’s strong resolve and practical support towards the smooth operation and effective management of basic education across the country.”

In an official statement released on Wednesday, July 23, GES emphasized that the Capitation Grant remains vital to the administration of public basic schools.

The GES Management expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritizing this payment despite prevailing economic challenges. It also commended the patience and dedication of school leaders who have ensured uninterrupted teaching and learning throughout this period.

GES statement stated, “We further commend all heads of basic schools for their patience and continued dedication in ensuring that teaching and learning have remained uninterrupted, regardless.”

Moving forward, GES urges all heads of basic schools to utilize the funds responsibly and in accordance with prescribed guidelines.

“We urge all school leaders to use the funds responsibly and in line with the guidelines for the utilisation of the Capitation Grant. Monitoring teams at the district and regional levels will intensify supervision to ensure compliance and value for money,” the statement stressed.

GES reiterated its steadfast commitment to collaborating with stakeholders across the education sector to enhance learning outcomes, improve school management systems, and guarantee the provision of inclusive, equitable, and quality education for every Ghanaian child.
