The Government of Ghana has declared three days of national mourning following the passing of former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The mourning period, which begins today, Friday, October 24, and ends on Sunday, October 26, 2025, was announced by President John Dramani Mahama on behalf of the government.
During this period, all national flags will fly at half-mast across public buildings, diplomatic missions, and government installations both within Ghana and abroad.
A statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the decision is in honour of the late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings’ memory and in recognition of her “distinguished service to the nation.”
Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001. She was widely known for her commitment to women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development.
“Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings served Ghana with dedication and commitment, particularly in women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development,” the statement noted.
The government also extended its “deepest condolences to the family, her children, and all who mourn this irreplaceable loss,” adding, “May her soul rest in perfect peace.”
Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
