The Government of Ghana has officially reverted the name of Kotoka International Airport to its former name, Accra International Airport, according to a statement issued Sunday by the Ministry of Transport.
In a press release dated Feb. 23, 2026, the ministry said the decision restores the airport to its original and internationally recognized name. The facility was previously known as Accra International Airport before it was redesignated.
Authorities emphasized that the renaming will not affect airport operations, safety standards or international travel arrangements. The ministry noted that within the records of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the airport code has remained “ACC.”
The implementation process will involve updating official documents, statutory instruments where necessary, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications and related communication materials.
The ministry called on the general public, stakeholders and international partners to cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth transition.
The statement was issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Transport.
