The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has announced the onboarding of 400,000 new households onto the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, in a major expansion of Ghana’s flagship social protection initiative.
Nationwide enrollment of the newly selected beneficiaries is set to commence on Monday, April 27, 2026, according to the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
The Minister indicated that payments to the newly enrolled households will begin only after the successful completion of the registration process. She explained that this measure is intended to ensure transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the system.
The LEAP Programme provides cash transfers to extremely poor households, including vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, and orphaned or vulnerable children.
The latest expansion is expected to significantly increase the programme’s reach and strengthen social safety nets across the country.
Officials say the phased enrollment and verification process will help streamline beneficiary identification and ensure that support reaches those most in need.
