The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed that government officials have held high-level discussions with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on major road infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region.
The meeting, which took place at the Manhyia Palace, brought together the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, his deputy, Alhassan Suhuyini, and the Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi.
According to Dr. Amoakohene, the engagement focused on critical road projects aimed at improving transportation and boosting economic activity in the region.
Key among them are the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway, rehabilitation works on the existing highway, and ongoing developments at the Suame Interchange.
He noted that the discussions also covered additional strategic interventions designed to ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility within the region.
The delegation included Chief Executive Officers from the Urban Roads and Feeder Roads agencies, as well as the Deputy Chief Executive of the Highways Authority and their respective regional directors.
Their presence, the Minister said, reflects a coordinated and unified approach to executing the priority projects.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with traditional authorities and other stakeholders to fast-track infrastructure development.
“We remain committed to working closely with traditional authorities and all stakeholders to accelerate infrastructure development and improve the quality of life for our people,” he stated.
The Ashanti Region, a key commercial hub in Ghana, continues to experience significant traffic challenges, making road expansion and rehabilitation projects a top priority for government.
