The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has commenced a formal investigation into allegations of extortion involving members of its Customs Division Task Force in the Ashanti Region.
The probe follows a complaint submitted by the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG). In a statement issued on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the Authority said it had noted reports that some Customs officers intercepted containers en route to Kumasi on the grounds that the goods were undervalued.
TAGG alleges that the officers demanded additional payments from the affected importer, who maintained that the charges were unwarranted.
The GRA stated that it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and has initiated an internal inquiry to ascertain the facts. It added that the findings will be made public upon completion of the investigation.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Authority urged traders, importers and the general public to report any suspected malpractice through its designated channels, noting that safeguarding integrity within its operations remains a key priority.
