The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) is calling on the trading community to adjust prices of goods and services to reflect the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against major foreign currencies.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, GUTA emphasized the need for traders to pass on the benefits of the strengthened currency to consumers by reducing prices, thereby easing the financial burden on the general public.
“We appeal to all traders to review and reduce prices in response to the significant gains made by the cedi,” said Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of GUTA.
“This gesture will not only support consumer welfare but also demonstrate our commitment to fair trade practices.”
The cedi has seen notable improvements in value over recent weeks, driven by a combination of fiscal measures and monetary interventions by the Bank of Ghana.
GUTA expressed hope that traders across sectors would respond positively to the appeal, fostering greater stability and confidence in the market.
