Deputy Minister of Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi has disclosed that the Ministry of Defence is in discussions with Hungarian companies to support the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in achieving food self-sufficiency.
According to the Deputy Minister, the engagement follows a recent meeting with the Hungarian Ambassador and his deputy, where President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to boost food security within the military was highlighted.
The initiative is being advanced through the Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC).
As part of the collaboration, the Hungarian Embassy facilitated presentations at the Ministry of Defence by three Hungarian firms eager to partner with GAF and DIHOC on large-scale food production ventures.
The projects are designed not only to ensure reliable food supply for the armed forces but also to contribute to the wider Ghanaian market.
The minister described the move as a “strategic step toward national resilience, economic empowerment, and sustainable defence logistics,” underscoring government’s commitment to strengthening the defence sector while promoting local economic growth.
