In a response to a spiralling public controversy, lawyer and media personality Serwaa Amihere has issued an apology after the Management of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, condemned comments attributed to her describing the school as a “breeding ground for homosexuals.”
The school’s statement, released on January 17, 2026, left no room for ambiguity, stating: “Management unequivocally condemns this statement. It is false, reckless, and deeply offensive,” adding that the remark was “an irresponsible generalisation that maligns our students, undermines the integrity of our institution, and seeks to attach a stigma to a school with a proud legacy.”

The statement triggered widespread backlash, prompting Amihere to publicly express regret. “I apologise to everyone who has felt slighted by the comments, especially the PRESEC community and the PRESECANS. I apologise, and I assure you that it won’t happen again,” she said.
This apology follows PRESEC’s detailed defence of its eight-decade legacy. The school emphasised its foundation as a Presbyterian mission institution “governed on firm Christian values” dedicated to “academic excellence, character development, discipline, leadership, and the moral upbringing of young men.” It described the allegation as a “gross misrepresentation” of its ethos.
The controversy erupted amidst a heightened national conversation on LGBTQI issues in Ghana, where same-sex activity is criminalised and public sentiment remains largely opposed.
Recent debates were fuelled by an unauthorised teacher training manual that sparked fears of LGBTQI concepts being introduced into schools, a claim firmly rejected by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service.
PRESEC’s management positioned its rebuttal within this sensitive climate, stating such “harmful” comments unfairly “expose young students to ridicule, prejudice, and emotional harm” while damaging the institution’s reputation. “PRESEC will not accept or normalise such characterisations,” the statement firmly concluded.
