Ghana’s first Chinese lawyer, Yang Weiqiang, has shared his insights on the country’s legal landscape, highlighting his efforts to promote legal education among Chinese nationals in Ghana.
Called to the Ghanaian Bar in 2017, Yang has been practicing law for the past eight years.
In an exclusive interview with EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Yang Weiqiang was asked about the possibility of representing Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining activities in Ghana.
He emphasized his commitment to upholding the law, stating that he has never represented any Chinese nationals in such cases.
Instead, Yang has focused on championing a good cause, promoting legal education and awareness among Chinese nationals in Ghana.
He has been mentoring Chinese nationals interested in pursuing a career in law in Ghana, guiding them on how to gain admission to the Ghana School of Law.
“I’ve never represented any person (Chinese) involved in illegal mining (galamsey) activities in (Ghana) before – Yang Weiqiang said.
