With just 50 days left until Ghana’s crucial 2024 general elections, former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a call to action, urging party members and supporters to intensify their efforts for victory.
In a stirring message addressed to Ghanaians and NDC members nationwide, Mahama rallied his campaign team, volunteers, and grassroots organizers to stay vigilant and committed as the country approaches what he described as a “battle to rescue the soul” of the nation.
“We are going into battle, and it’s a battle to rescue the soul of this nation,” Mahama declared, acknowledging the hard work that had been done thus far while motivating his supporters to push even harder in the final stretch before the election.
Speaking passionately about the dedication shown by his supporters, the NDC’s leader expressed deep gratitude to the thousands of volunteers who have joined the “Hammer for Change” campaign across the country. He praised the efforts of those working tirelessly in their communities, institutions, and on social media, urging them to continue their relentless pursuit of victory for the NDC.
“I’m particularly indebted to the incredible number of you who have volunteered for the Hammer for Change campaign,” Mahama said, singling out regional and national executives, branch officers, and hardworking members of the party for their leadership and commitment. “You are the generals who are leading the charge in this battle,” he added.
Former President Mahama emphasized the critical role of polling stations in the upcoming election, reminding his supporters that these stations would be their responsibility on election day. He urged them to not only turn out voters from their electoral areas but also to remain vigilant throughout the voting process.
“After voting, keep your eye on the process even more keenly until the last ballot is counted,” he said, stressing the importance of ensuring the integrity of the vote and securing victory.
He also called on voters to support both the NDC’s parliamentary candidates and himself as the party’s presidential candidate.
“Vote for your Member of Parliament, and vote for John Mahama as your presidential candidate,” he urged, positioning the election as a turning point for the nation’s future.
The former president reminded his audience that the election was not just about political competition but about “unleashing” a new vision for Ghana.
He promised that under his leadership, the NDC would work to rebuild the country and restore its economy, which he claims has been mismanaged by the current administration.
“Let’s get out all the votes, reset the economy, and build the Ghana we all want together,” he emphasized.
Mahama concluded his message with a powerful reminder of the unity that binds the NDC. “Victory lies in our unity,” he said, calling on all members of the party to march towards victory together. “We have 50 days to go — let’s get to the finish line together.”
Mahama’s call to action comes as the NDC prepares for what is expected to be a fiercely contested election, with economic challenges, corruption concerns, and governance at the forefront of voter concerns.
His message is likely to galvanize the party’s base, as the NDC seeks to reclaim power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 2024 polls.
