President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Ofori Agyeman Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, for the position of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive.
This nomination is in line with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), pending approval by the Assembly.
King Zuba’s appointment is seen as a strategic choice, given his impressive track record as the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi.
During his tenure, he spearheaded several initiatives that transformed Obuasi into a thriving hub.
Notably, he played a crucial role in establishing the Obuasi City campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), significantly expanding educational opportunities and positioning Obuasi as a center for innovation and intellectual growth.
As Kumasi faces challenges such as congestion and poor waste management, King Zuba’s experience and leadership skills are expected to bring about positive change.
His appointment is anticipated to restore Kumasi’s status as the “Garden City of West Africa,” addressing the city’s developmental needs and enhancing its economic and social landscape.
King Zuba’s nomination is subject to approval by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. If confirmed, he will face the task of revitalizing Kumasi’s infrastructure and addressing long-standing issues.
His ability to collaborate with local stakeholders and his respect for traditional authority are seen as key strengths that could facilitate his success in this role.
