The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has officially handed over sites for the construction of four pedestrian footbridges across the metropolis, as part of efforts to improve road safety and ease pedestrian movement in high-traffic areas.
The handing-over ceremony was led by the Director of Urban Roads at KMA, Engineer Atta Poku, together with the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, and representatives of the contractor.

According to Engineer Atta Poku, the contractor, Regano, has been tasked to construct four footbridges at Atasomanso, Ohwim, Amankwatia, and Kokoso.
He said the projects are expected to be completed within six months (180 days).
“The money is readily available, so there are no financial constraints on the side of the client or the contractor. All the contractor needs to do is to perform so that at the end of the 180 days, we will have four footbridges spread across the Kumasi Metropolis,” he said.

Engineer Atta Poku assured that the Assembly would closely monitor the projects through regular site meetings to ensure quality and timely delivery.
He added that the KMA is prepared to address any site-related challenges, including protection and access issues, to enable smooth execution of the works.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi stressed the Assembly’s expectations of timely completion and high-quality workmanship.

He reiterated that funds for the projects are already secured and urged the contractor to deliver to standard for the benefit of residents.
“We expect timely completion because the funds are available, and we want quality projects when all is said and done so that the people can use them safely,” the Mayor said.
He further noted that contractors who demonstrate competence and professionalism stand the chance of being considered for additional projects within the metropolis.
The contractor, represented by company engineer Solomon Appiah, expressed appreciation to the Mayor, Assembly officials, and stakeholders for the opportunity and pledged to execute the works in line with the agreed terms and specifications.
“We promise to execute the job according to the terms that have been given to us,” he said.
The construction of the footbridges is expected to reduce pedestrian-related accidents along major roads in Kumasi and enhance safety in some of the city’s busiest corridors once completed.
