The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) have announced extended operational hours at two of the country’s vital airports namely Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi and Tamale International Airport.
Effective June 1, 2025, these changes promise to enhance travel flexibility, improve connectivity, and stimulate economic activity in Ghana’s northern and middle belt regions.
Prempeh I International Airport, a key gateway to the Ashanti Region, will now remain operational until 11:00 p.m., extending its previous closing time by three hours.
This means more evening flights, less rush, and greater convenience for both business and leisure travelers.
Similarly, Tamale International Airport, serving the Northern Region and beyond, will now operate until 10:00 p.m., four hours later than before.
To ensure a smooth transition, the GCAA has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) alerting all airlines to the new operating hours.
Domestic carriers have been encouraged to increase flight frequencies and adjust schedules, offering passengers more options throughout the day and into the evening.
This development is expected to ease congestion at major hubs like Kotoka International Airport in Accra, while promoting regional airports as viable alternatives for travelers.
For travelers, the extended hours mean greater flexibility in planning trips, especially for those involved in business, trade, and tourism. Late evening flights can accommodate last-minute meetings, connections, and cargo shipments, enhancing efficiency and convenience.
