The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, has assured residents of improved security and emergency preparedness across the Greater Kumasi enclave.
He gave the assurance during a working inspection of the ongoing dualisation project from the Ahodwo Roundabout to the Asokwa Interchange.
According to the Mayor, a total of 138 police officers have been deployed across Greater Kumasi, including within the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), to enhance public safety.
He said the deployment includes both uniformed and plainclothes officers, supported by two armoured vehicles and other essential logistics to boost patrol and rapid response operations.
“We have improved our patrol activities and increased vigilance. Drones have also been deployed in some areas to monitor criminal activities,” Mr. Boadi said.
He added that the enhanced security measures are aimed at ensuring residents and visitors can go about their daily activities without fear, particularly as traffic volumes increase due to ongoing road works.
The Mayor urged the public to promptly report any security concerns to enable swift and appropriate responses by security agencies.
Touching on fire safety, Mr. Boadi said the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Fire Service, has intensified public education as the dry season sets in.
He explained that officers from the Ghana Fire Service, led by the Regional Commander, have embarked on community sensitisation exercises to educate residents on fire prevention, what to do when fire outbreaks occur, and how to quickly contact emergency response teams.
“The Fire Service is on the ground educating the public and preparing for unforeseen incidents, even though we do not expect anything negative,” he said.
The Mayor also disclosed that arrangements are being made to address transportation challenges faced by commuters, particularly those affected by the ongoing road construction.
The inspection forms part of efforts by city authorities to monitor progress on the Ahodwo–Asokwa dualisation project while ensuring safety, security and convenience for road users and residents.
