Leaked WhatsApp messages cast doubt on credibility of Pro-Agyapong Survey
Leaked WhatsApp messages have raised serious questions about the credibility of a nationwide survey released on Monday, October 20, 2025, by the research group Academics and Professionals.
The poll, which appeared to favour New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is now under scrutiny following allegations that it was deliberately manipulated to boost his campaign ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
The leaked messages suggest a coordinated political effort masked as academic research. The exchanges, believed to originate from a WhatsApp group named “50K Army ED4K with ED4K”—an abbreviation for “Dr. Evans Duah for Kennedy”—indicate that the group’s lead researcher, Dr. Evans Duah, allegedly orchestrated the poll’s rollout to enhance Mr. Agyapong’s public image.
In one message, Dr. Duah reportedly told group members, “I am coming out tomorrow 5pm and 7pm respectively.
Be ready,” referring to the planned media and social media release of the report. Following publication, he urged members to “Like, comment and share massively,” suggesting an organized online amplification effort.
Additional messages allegedly show that Dr. Duah invited members to his Asokwa office in Kumasi to discuss the survey’s content and promotional strategy, reinforcing claims that the research was politically driven rather than academically independent.
Reacting to the revelations, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, Deputy Spokesperson for former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, described the survey as a “shameful propaganda tool” aimed at misleading the public and distorting the NPP’s internal democratic process.
“The revelations have vindicated our long-held view that some of these so-called polls are nothing more than politically manufactured propaganda pieces,” Dr. Amoakoh stated. “This so-called research has now been exposed for what it truly is — a fabricated political project designed to deceive delegates and manipulate public opinion.”
She emphasized that the Bawumia Campaign remains focused on factual, data-driven engagement rather than “orchestrated PR gimmicks.”
“Dr. Bawumia’s strength lies in his record, his vision, and his unmatched connection with the grassroots,” she said. “From the north to the south, delegates see in him a unifier, a reformer, and a leader who understands both the economy and the everyday struggles of Ghanaians. The primaries will be won not through deception, but through credibility, performance, and trust.”
Dr. Amoakoh also urged party delegates and the media to exercise caution when evaluating political surveys, stressing the importance of verifying the authenticity of research data before publication.
The Academics and Professionals group and Dr. Duah have yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
