The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries have taken a dramatic twist as Kennedy Ohene Agyapong once the loudest voice of financial might within the party now finds himself gasping for air in the shadow of Bryan Acheampong’s money machine.
In what many describe as a passionate yet frustrated plea on VOV Radio in the Hohoe Constituency of the Volta Region, the outspoken NPP presidential hopeful called on delegates to reject what he termed “money politics” and instead vote for a leader who truly cares about their welfare.
“When we were begging for five hundred Ghana cedis, where were they? When we didn’t have cars as late as May 2016, where were these rich people in the NPP? Those giving you money today will abandon you after the election,” Agyapong lamented.
He further appealed to delegates, especially in the Volta Region, to consider their long-term future instead of short-term financial handouts.
According to him, he had acquired over 60,000 hectares of land in the region “to create employment” because he genuinely cared for their wellbeing.
However, political observers say the firebrand MP is beginning to feel the pressure as Bryan Acheampong, the late entrant into the presidential race, flexes his financial muscle across constituencies.
The tables seem to have turned, and the man who once declared himself the wealthiest in the NPP now appears to be tasting his own medicine.
With cash reportedly flowing freely at campaign grounds, Kennedy Agyapong’s moral appeal may be drowned out by the jingling of coins and rustling of cedi notes.
Insiders within the party have jokingly described the situation as a “man pass man” moment a classic case of one wealthy contender outspending another in the battle for political supremacy.
As the January 2028 NPP primaries draw closer, one thing is clear: Kennedy Agyapong’s once-bold declaration that “money can’t buy loyalty” is being put to the ultimate test. In today’s NPP, it seems money doesn’t just talk it campaigns.
