A workshop on digital content creation and mini-video blogging focused on free movement and migration in West Africa has been held in Takoradi in Ghana’s Western Region.
The training, organised by Media Response and jointly funded by the European Union and the ECOWAS Commission, sought to equip journalists, bloggers, reporters and communication officers with practical digital skills to enhance migration reporting.
Held under the theme, “Reframing narratives on Free Movement of Persons and Migration in West Africa,” the workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity to use mini-video blogging tools and social media platforms to promote informed public discourse on migration and regional integration.
Facilitators provided training in ethical journalism and digital storytelling techniques, focusing on producing accurate and compelling content on migration issues across West Africa.
The workshop also highlighted the legal framework underpinning cross-border mobility within the sub-region. The ECOWAS Protocol on Free Movement of Persons, Right of Residence and Establishment provides for easier movement, economic cooperation and regional solidarity among member states.
However, organisers noted that public discourse on migration is often shaped by misinformation, sensationalism and stereotypes, as well as limited understanding of migration governance structures.

Delivering a sessional address, Project Manager for Media Response (Ghana), Samuel Doodo, expressed hope that the training would help promote balanced and factual reporting on migration dynamics in Ghana and the wider West African region.
He said well-informed media practitioners play a critical role in educating the public on the rights and responsibilities of ECOWAS citizens who migrate within the sub-region.
The workshop forms part of broader efforts to strengthen media capacity in covering regional integration and migration issues.
