Minority in Parliament has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate alleged conflict of interest and administrative breaches involving the Deputy Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has accused COCOBOD’s Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance, Ato Boateng, of permitting a private company previously linked to him to operate in warehouses belonging to the Produce Buying Company (PBC).
Mr Assafuah alleges that Mr Boateng formerly served as Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Commodities Limited before assuming his current role at COCOBOD. He claims the company is now using PBC warehouses for the storage, grading, sealing and processing of cocoa.
The MP argues that the situation raises ethical concerns, particularly at a time when COCOBOD is reportedly facing financial challenges and struggling to pay cocoa farmers.
In his petition, Mr Assafuah is calling for full criminal and conflict-of-interest investigations into Mr Boateng’s conduct. He is also demanding a forensic audit of warehouse registrations and records of cocoa movements.
The Minority MP has further urged authorities to impose sanctions should any wrongdoing be established.
COCOBOD and Mr Boateng have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
