The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ghana’s former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the NPP extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, describing the late Mrs. Agyeman Rawlings as a symbol of courage, leadership, and dedication to gender equality.
“The New Patriotic Party has received with deep sorrow the passing of Her Excellency Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings,” the statement read.
“The late Mrs. Agyeman Rawlings, Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement and Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, was an epitome of the strength and resilience of Ghanaian women, particularly in political leadership and socio-economic empowerment.”
According to the statement, the former First Lady’s relentless advocacy shaped national policies and laws that advanced the welfare and rights of women and children.
She was particularly recognized for her instrumental role in pushing for the enactment of the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111), which secured the inheritance rights of women and children in Ghana.
The NPP further lauded her contribution to embedding gender equality provisions in the 1992 Constitution, describing her as “a true woman who remained resolute in the fight for women’s emancipation.”
“Ghana has not just lost a mother and a political colossus but also an embodiment of inspiration,” the statement added. “May her soul find rest in God’s bosom, and may her family and the entire nation find the fortitude to bear this great loss.”
The party concluded with the poignant farewell: “Damirifa due!”
